BROWNWOOD – February 22, 2018 – Howard Payne University’s Walker Memorial Library will host its annual book sale Thursday, March 1, and Friday, March 2, with a clearance sale to be held Sunday, March 4. The sale is open to the community with hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. The sale is hosted by the Friends of the Library group.
A large selection of books, including duplicate titles and books the library does not traditionally carry in the academic collection, will be available for purchase. The sale will also include a large selection of children’s books. Most paperbacks and hardcover books will range from $.50 to $1.00 with rare books varying in price.
“The book sale this year has a wide selection of books and will be the largest sale we have ever done,” said Alexia Riggs, dean of libraries and associate professor of library science. “We are excited about the opportunity for the public to look through the selections and pick up a few treasures.”
All proceeds from the book sale will benefit students through library improvements. With the proceeds from last year’s book sale, the library was able to purchase new commentaries for the library’s reference room and white boards for students to use in the study rooms.
“The library appreciates the Friends group and all that they do for the library at HPU,” said Riggs.
The goal of the Friends of the Library is to promote interest in the library and support for its collections and programs. Anyone is welcome to join with memberships ranging from $10 to $100. Library memberships are available to HPU alumni and members of the Friends of the Library. More information on these membership opportunities will be presented at the sale.
The Walker Memorial Library is located on Fisk Street on the HPU campus. For more information, call 325-649-8602 or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
