Unconditional Admission includes students who score a composite of a 19 or higher on the ACT or a 990 or above on the SAT, maintain a “B” (80%) average or higher throughout high school and meet all other admissions requirements.
Traditional Freshmen are applicants who will enter the fall semester of the same year in which they graduated from high school. These students may have from 0 to 11 hours of college work.
Non-Traditional Freshmen are applicants who are not entering the fall semester of the same year in which they graduated from high school and who have less than 12 semester hours of college work.
Transfer Students are applicants with 12 or more college hours without a degree earned and have the intent to pursue a degree at Howard Payne University.
Transient Students are applicants who do not intend to pursue a degree from Howard Payne University but wish to transfer hours to another college that they attend. Transient students are usually here for summer school or for only one semester.
Former HPU students are students who have previously attended HPU.
Special Students are applicants who have a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from a regionally-accredited college or university.
Early Admission Students are applicants who have successfully completed their junior year in high school and who wish to take seven or less college hours per semester.
Early Admissions High school students who demonstrate an outstanding academic record and a willingness to perform at the university level may apply to HPU through an “Early Admissions” program. The Texas Education Agency has authorized a procedure by which students may earn dual credit for high school and eventual college work.
High School Equivalency Students under 21 years of age who have successfully completed the General Educational Development Testing Program (GED) and have submitted acceptable scores on the ACT or SAT may be admitted to HPU. Applications must be reviewed and approved by the Admissions Committee.
Transient Admission Transient admission is available for students desiring to enroll in HPU for a summer or for one semester only and not desiring to transfer hours to HPU.
Non-Degree Admission Non-degree admission is available for students who are not in pursuit of a degree but desire to enroll in HPU.
